BIOGRAPHY OF DR. THANDI
Thandi Myeni MD, MPG, MAJ, MC, US Army, is more than a board-certified ophthalmologist; she is a beacon of inspiration, affectionately known as “Dr. Thandi” or “Beloved.” With a multifaceted identity, she embodies resilience, transformation, and empowerment, donning hats as a Catalyst of Change, a Surgeon of Hope, a Force of Nature, a Mother of Passion, and an Army Major of Dedication. From the Operating Room to the Stage, from Authorship to Leadership, from Visionary Entrepreneur to Thought-Provoking Author and Coach, Dr. Myeni ignites change and champions empowerment.
Dr. Thandeka Myeni’s remarkable journey in ophthalmology is marked by a tapestry of education, dedication, and service. After earning her M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia in 2006 and completing a B.A. in English and Psychology from Amherst College, she pursued extensive training. This included an ophthalmology residency at Howard University Hospital, a Glaucoma Fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital, and a Cataract and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at Koch Eye Associates.
Dr. Myeni, a renowned ophthalmologist, excels in both medical and surgical Glaucoma and Cataract management across diverse settings, including private practices and military service. Her active participation in research projects highlights her dedication to advancing ophthalmological knowledge. Recognized for her exceptional achievements, she has earned prestigious honors such as the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Fly-In Scholarship and the National Medical Association Ophthalmology Section Rabb Venable Research Program Award.
Dr. Myeni’s impact reaches national ophthalmological conferences through original research presentations and co-authored papers in esteemed medical journals. Her expertise expands beyond medicine, holding a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard University. Raised in Southern Africa, particularly Swaziland, she embraces cultural diversity, enhancing patient connections.
Dr. Myeni’s dynamic life extends far beyond her professional accolades. Engaging in a myriad of passions from kite surfing to salsa dancing, she embraces life’s vibrancy.
